Comics Stripped

June 19, 2004

“Off the Preserve!, a gallery project of the non-profit di Rosa Preserve: Art & Nature, presents Comics Stripped,
a selection of works by regional artists who utilize the comic
aesthetic or are inspired by the art and iconography of the Sunday
comics, comic books and cartoons. In their work the comic is stripped
of its narrative context and adapted to fit their artistic intentions
whether political, satirical or purely compositional. An action-packed
opening reception will be held Friday, June 18 from 7 to 9pm (di Rosa
Preserve Membersí preview at 6pm).”

Among the artists work on exhibit is Todd Barricklow’s who recently is mostly working with ceramics and shrinky dinks (as well as maintaining some 300,000+ honeybees at his home).

Also be sure to check out the diRosa Preserve:
“The di Rosa Preserve houses one of the largest regional art
collections in the country. Amassed throughout the last forty years,
the di Rosa collection represents the most extensive gathering of
contemporary California Bay Area art available anywhere in the
world”.  Perhaps the West coast’s response to Storm King in upstate NY.
