Oppenheimer
February 1, 2006
First of all, great band name. Oppenheimer. I wonder if the band prefers the early version of Robert Oppenheimer whose mind helped bring to reality the first atom bomb (unavoidable I’m sure) or the ‘born again’ anti-nuclear man he became later in life. Either way there seems to be nothing tragic about this band. They have an album coming out on one of my all time favorite labels, Bar/None out of my one time home, Hoboken, NJ.
Here’s what a new fan and reviewer for 4F, Pearl, has to say:
I’m sure this band is sick of the “bomb” puns, so I promise
not to put any in this review. But Oppenheimer sure does rock. The
first song on their myspace, “Breakfast in NYC” is catchy in that 80s
meets present way. The catchiness reminds me of the first time I’d
heard a Postal Service song- I found myself humming or singing it even
if I didn’t know the words. When I hear the songs, I think of myself
sitting in the grass in Golden Gate Park and watching a concert. The
third song is my favorite because it sounds so upbeat, when at first I
was thinking “Oh my gosh, this band seems emo!” Yeah, overall great
band. I’ll totally buy your CD.
