The Prix

February 9, 2006

Where have the true rock and roll bands gone?  We call rock anything under the sun these days.  I’m not talking Chuck Berry rock boys and girls, but I do not mean Led Zepplin either.  No sir, there are few true rock and roll bands that give you a desire to buy your friends drinks.  That 70’s rock and roll era is what I jones for.  Bands like the New York Dolls, the Stooges, Television or even earlier psychadelia the likes of The Soft Machine (or even Soft Boys).  What makes a rock band anyway?  I can’t say anymore, but perhaps The Prix can show you.

Out of Los Angeles we get the four piece band called The Prix.  The band is led by vocalists Cashew Von Harding (guitar) and Blake Jordan (piano) along with bassist Zacharius Ziegler and drummer Stephen Mills.  They recorded an EP in 2004 with the aid of legendary Emmit Rhodes (apparently the 60’s icon was listed in the phonebook).  They are big fans of rockers like Alice Cooper, The Doors and X, but don’t think that’s what you’ll get.  They have a very tight rock band sound that is sure to get our local San Francisco club scenesters bopping and drinking when they appear live at the one and only Thee Parkside on February 15th (don’t splurge too much on your loved one the day before).
