Album Leaf
I came across the Album Leaf because my friend Bob Peyton,an amazing D.P., needed help with his film reel. Bob had An Orchestrated Rise to Fall as one of the albums he considered using music to put on his reel. Immediately I fell into the album, and i feel that’s how you listen to The Album Leaf, by falling in. Minimal and haunting at times, Jimmy La Valle produces cinema for the ears. Bass, keyboards (specifically…a microKORG synthesizer, Pandora Personal Effects Processor, KP2 KAOSS Pad and KAOSS entrancer), drums, piano, sounds, some guitar and mood swings.  La Valle is the Album Leaf but he does have a full band for live shows which you will see if you watch this 10 minute documentary on youtube.

Band of Horses and Dan’s List Part 2

January 2, 2007

I was browsing through Other Music and I luckily remembered about a song I had heard on KEXP’s “song of the day” podcast.  The song was called “The Great Salt Lake” from a band named, Band Of Horses. So I decided to pick up Everything All The Time for my own Xmas gift. The Band Of Horses is a clash of My Morning Jacket and the Stills.  Really.  Listen to them and you’ll hear the pop sensibility of the Stills and the southern rock/reverb sunk vocals of My Morning Jacket. Also, check out their website, it’s quite wonderful to look through, great photos and nice design/layout.  And the album… it’s solid. I’m looking forward to hearing more from these guys.
